God’s plan in loss

Some years ago, a very special baby was born. She was our third child but unlike our first two, she was born with Trisomy 18, a chromosomal defect. Sadly, she only lived for 2-1/2 months, but God allowed her life to touch many people.

When I was 4 months pregnant, we found out daughter had clubbed feet. The doctors encouraged us to have an amniocentesis to test for other complications. They said we could choose abortion. Knowing we would choose life for this baby no matter the outcome, we decided not to have the test. We had peace in our hearts that God had a perfect plan for our baby. God had given her life and chosen me to be her mother for a reason.

Our baby girl only lived 2 ½ months but she was a special gift for our family. We will always remember her with joy. We are so thankful for the time we held and loved her and for the memories we made. God answered my prayer to care for her and I will always treasure being able to hold her when she took her last breath. It was so hard when she died, but there was comfort in knowing she was healed when she went to heaven. God used her little life to teach us many things but especially that God is in control and perfect in all His ways. “Every good and perfect gift is from above…” (James 1:17).
