Your Unique Experience
We know that an abortion experience can look different for every woman. Some women feel immediate relief and never look back, while others feel grief and remorse. There isn’t a specific time to begin questioning your decision. It can be weeks, months, or even years later.
It is difficult to discuss your abortion with friends or family who might not understand your reasons for choosing it. You may feel isolated and unable to talk about your feelings, but we want you to know healing is available, and we are here to help you.
The Emotions are real
The National Library of Medicine in the United States published a study about mental health issues for women who have had at least one abortion. They concluded that “abortion is consistently associated with elevated rates of mental illness compared to women without a history of abortion.” And for at least some women, “the abortion experience directly contributes to mental health problems.”
